Aconcagua Catchment

Phase 1: Diagnose

Collective action on water-biodiversity

The Aconcagua Valley is one of Chile’s most important agricultural regions. However, an escalating water crisis that threatens its long-term sustainability. The region’s water resources are under immense pressure due to a combination of climate change, over-extraction, and increasing demand.

The current collective action initiative builds on four years of efforts towards a balanced Aconcagua Catchment - bringing together farmers, buyers, and the enabling environment.

Solutions: A three-level approach

Vision: A catchment in balance where water inflows, outflows, and storage are sustainably managed to support healthy, biodiverse ecosystems and enhance livelihoods.

Mission of collective action: Facilitate the transition to sustainable, regenerative, water-resilient farmer production practices, by promoting a supportive enabling environment and being a partner to buyers for sustainable sourcing innovation.

Enabling Environment

Goal:Co-create an organized, structural space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, advocacy, and market transformation

Farmers

Goal:Enable climate- and water-resilient production of avocados and other crops, whilst supporting farmers in climate change adaptation.

Buyers

Goal:Partner with buyers to create scalable, sustainable sourcing practices and risk mitigation.
